My Gmail was Hacked? Dangers of Being Hacked. Due to the internet, it is difficult to keep your passwords safe from hackers. When your phone or other device is connected to the Internet, malware built by a hacker on your computer secretly transmits your personal and financial information without your permission or consent.
Gmail is one of the biggest email servers in the world. Given that it’s used by millions every day, making sure it’s secure is very important.
Most of us send and receive emails every day linked to sites that store our personal information, credit card details, and contact numbers.
While we often try our best to keep our account safe with passwords that are hard to figure out, people can still manage to hack into your accounts – sometimes without you even realizing it.
However, there’s no need to fret. Google actually has a quick and easy way to check if your account security has been breached, as well as ways to make sure you remain protected in the future.
The Password Check-up is a free Chrome add-on that users can use to find if their Gmail account has been hacked into.
The extension, which was first launched by Google in October 2019, has been designed to strengthen online security. What the add-on does is scan all known databases and pinpoint any usernames and passwords that hackers have lifted from websites and made available to cybercriminals.
Password Check-up also warns users to change their access information if it has been leaked, with a message that reads: “Password Check-up has detected that your password for (website) is no longer safe due to a data breach. You should change your password now.”
Whenever you sign into a website, a pop-up will notify you of being “one of over 4 billion usernames and passwords” that have been fraudulently obtained and advertised by hackers.
Some people are of the belief that their Social Security Number (SSN) is the most valuable number. In reality, your mobile phone number is even more valuable to hackers and scammers.
Take this recent data breach as an example. Scammers can use the breach data to SIM Swap your number and become you. Once the scammer and hackers have control of your number it is a matter of minutes to hours before they reak havoc on your entire life. These scammers and hackers, now that they control your number, can gain access and steal all your bank accounts, crypto, social media, and other accounts. We take for granted how much our mobile controls in our lives.
It is time you protect yourself today and get SAFE secured.
